Oh Blessed Stability

I just wrote a series of rent cheques to my landlady for the next year. I couldn't stop grinning at the thought of not moving anytime soon, enjoying the feeling and thanking the Universe for some much needed stability. Oh blessed stability.

I'm Back Baby!

After three weeks dealing with computer woes, I'm finally connected again. I know, I know, I could've posted from a café or from a friend's computer, but I didn't.

November has been a bizarre month for me - depressing because of the rain, confusing because of the upcoming holidays dealing with new life circumstances, frustrating because of multiple computer woes and overwhelming because of a growing to-do list and the impending reality that I must find a job soon. There you go, my numerous excuses for not posting.

It hasn't been all bad though. I've spent quiet time with loved ones and celebrated with friends. Being without a computer has prompted me to delve back into my Simple Living books, organize my storage and try out new recipes. I even pulled out my Christmas CD's and set up the tree in the dining room - it's not decorated, but it's out of the box!

Yup, the past month has really been a mixed bag.

This Friday a new month begins. I'm looking forward to it. I'm looking forward to posting again. It's good to be back.

Favourite Things: My Window on the World

This is the door to my balcony. It's in my dining room. I love it. Actually there are two doors: one solid door that locks with a skeleton key, and a second wooden screen door that makes a loud clapping sound when you close it too hard. In the winter, I have to stuff folded cardboard boxes between the two to stop the cold wind from blowing into the apartment. I guess the solid door isn't so solid anymore. I still love it.

One my favourite things to do is stand at the balcony window and watch whatever's unfolding at the time. I watch the people walking on the street below, the birds in the trees at eye level, and just last night I watched an almost full moon rise from the rooftops.

It's my little window on the world.

Where Was Everybody?

A friend and I were out last night looking for a place to whoop it up a little on her birthday. Aside from a few clumps of people like us, all dressed up wandering around looking for a bit of fun, the streets were empty and so were the dance floors. I know Ottawa is by no means the "city that never sleeps" but my goodness it was so dead I'm surprised we didn't hear crickets! Where was everybody?

Although a little disappointed - and quite frankly a little stunned - we didn't let that faze us. We made our way to the local pub, giggled and gabbed like schoolgirls over Kilkenny and a rum & coke, then treated ourselves to a late night / early morning poutine at the local diner. Sweet.
