Running Update

Running goal for this week: 3 x 1-4's (1 minute walking / 4 minutes running)

Running status: one down, two to go

I hope the weather holds out. I'm a fair-weather runner, I don't like going out in the cold rain.

Weekly Running Goal

I only ran twice last week, missing my goal by one run. That's ok.

Running goal this week: 3 x 1-3s (1 minute walking / 3minutes running for 20 minutes).

Running status: one down, two to go.

Random Thoughts & Observations

  • Sometimes a messy linen closet and eating cereal for dinner mean a happy relationship. Sometimes they just mean a messy linen closet and a cold meal.

  • This afternoon a friend convinced me to open a blind outside my corner cubicle to let in more natural light. Shortly after doing so I overheard this in the hallway: "Ya know, that's the first time I see that blind open", to which a second person replied "There is an outside!" I don't know why I never thought of doing that before.

  • Jogging goal for this week: 3 x 1-2's (1 minute walking / 2 minutes jogging for a total of 20 minutes).

  • Jogging status for this week: one jog down, two to go.

  • I'm working on an assignment for which I need to extract essential information from a very detailed process and summarize it on a two-page pamphlet. Today it dawned on me that simplifying is like doing that with my life.

Rabbit Ears and Ron MacLean - Part Deux

April 17th, 2006, I declared success in my attempts to capture a clear picture of a playoff hockey game on my cable-less TV. Who knew almost two years later to the day I'd be doing the same?

NHL playoff season is one of the few times I miss cable, but yesterday D. set up the ol' rabbit ears and success! The picture's a little snowy, but we've got game! I don't need no stinkin' plasma, I don't need no stinkin' high def, I don't need no stinkin' PVR. Tonight I'm quite content with a pair of 3-foot antennas, CBC and my 27-inch Panasonic TV.

Three cheers for rabbit ears and Ron MacLean!

Jogging update: I went out for my third jog today. Aside from wanting to beat the weekend's crappy weather, my greatest motivation was having posted my intention here for the world (ok, for D., a few friends and some family) to see. Thank you. :)

I got another jog in today. Hurray! My goal is to get one more in this week for a total of three. I'll keep you posted (pun intended).

Re-embracing Fitness

Last night I started a new fitness class - the first in over a year.

While on sabbatical I took two dance classes, a Learn-to-Run clinic, tried pole dancing and even threw in a bit of yoga. I was in the best shape of my life. Then I felt a need to reduce my number of commitments and drastically reduced the amount of time dedicated to physical activity.

After spending six months adjusting to being back to work, I finally feel able to incorporate evening commitments into my week without feeling overwhelmed so I signed up for a class. What fun! It felt good to move. It felt good to get lost in the music, feel my muscles tighten and my mood loosen up. And yes my abs hurt but they hurt good!

One baby step at a time, I'm happily re-embracing physical fitness into my life.
